The Groomer's Day in Order: Appointments, Set Times and the Next Driveway
Mobile grooming runs on appointment times. A lawn crew can show up any time on Tuesday; a groomer cannot. The owner is home at 10:30 to hand over the dog, and leaving at noon for work. So the first screen of the groomer app has one job: show the day in the right order, with the right time on every appointment.
The First Screen After Login
Once the app is installed and on the home screen, as covered in No App Store Needed: Installing the Groomer App From the Browser on iPhone and Android, the groomer signs in and lands on their day. It is a list of appointment cards, top to bottom, in route order.
Each card shows the set time, the customer and address, the service (full groom, bath and brush, puppy intro groom, nail trim, cat groom), and the pets at that home. The groomer reads the top card, drives, grooms, completes, and moves to the next one.
Where the Order Comes From
The groomer does not build the day. The office does, usually the day before. Here is the path an appointment takes before it reaches the phone:
- Repeat appointments are written up front. When a client is booked every 4, 6 or 8 weeks on the same weekday, time and van, every visit is created ahead of time with its planned day, time and van.
- They wait on Pending Jobs. Planned repeat visits and new requests sit on a map and list with day tabs, tomorrow first. New requests with no day yet sit under “No Day.”
- The office confirms them. One click keeps each visit's planned day, time and van. The office can also move one to another day or van.
- The Scheduled list sets the order. Filtered by van, the office sets the route order by hand or auto-routes Closest First or Furthest First from the shop.
Whatever order the office lands on is the order the groomer sees. There is one schedule, not an office copy and a van copy.
Set Times on Every Card
Because grooming customers book times, not days, the appointment time shows on every card in the app, and on the office's Scheduled list too. A groomer can glance at the next card and know whether there is time for a quick lunch or whether they should already be pulling out.
Times also help when things slip. A matted coat that takes longer than planned on the 9:00 dog pushes everything back. The groomer can see that the 12:00 appointment is next and the office can text that customer before they start wondering.
When the Office Moves Something
Days change. A customer calls in sick, a new puppy intro needs a spot, a van has a flat. When the office moves an appointment on the Scheduled list, the groomer's list follows. Nobody has to call the van and read out a new order.
That is the big difference from a printed route sheet. Printed sheets still have a place (the office can print route sheets for a van that wants one), but the phone is always the current version.
Reading the Day Before It Starts
A good habit for groomers: scroll the whole day before leaving in the morning. In a minute or two they can see:
- How many pets are on the day, not just how many stops. A three-dog home is a long stop.
- Which coats are coming. Two doodles and a double-coated shepherd make a different day from four short-coated small dogs.
- Which add-ons need supplies on the van, such as a flea and tick bath or a blueberry facial.
- Any cats on the day, if the groomer prefers to plan around them.
The pet details on each card are covered in their own article a little later, Breed, Size, Coat and Cut Notes: Reading Each Pet on the Groomer App Card.
Monthly Accounts on the Same List
Some grooming businesses run a regular day at a senior living community, a doggy daycare bath day or an apartment community. Those appointments sit on the same list as everything else, with their time and address. Billing is different (the account can get one statement for the month instead of an invoice per visit), but on the groomer's phone it is just another card in the day.
One List, Every Groomer
Each groomer sees only their own van's day. A business with three vans has three lists, each in its own order, each with its own times. The owner, from the office side, sees all of them. If the owner is also grooming, they sign in with their own PIN and see their own van like anyone else.
The next step after reading a card is getting to the address, which is a single tap. That is the next article. For the rest of the groomer app, head back to the PetGroomBossPro dog grooming app page.
