Add-On Prices on the Booking Page: Teeth Brushing, Nail Grinding, De-Shed and More
Add-ons are where a lot of grooming revenue hides. Teeth brushing, nail grinding, a de-shed treatment, a blueberry facial, a bow or bandana. Each one is small. Across a full route of repeat clients, they add up. The PetGroomBossPro booking page lets customers tick add-ons and see the price change as they do.
Add-Ons Come After the Frequency
The schedule choice is covered in Frequency Discounts on the Grooming Booking Page: Rewarding Clients on a Repeat Schedule. After the customer picks how often, they see your list of add-ons with a price next to each one.
You choose which add-ons to offer and what each costs. The list is yours. A common set might include:
- De-Shed Treatment
- Teeth Brushing
- Nail Grinding
- Flea & Tick Bath
- De-Matting
- Ear Cleaning
- Anal Glands
- Paw Balm
- Blueberry Facial
- Bow / Bandana
Use the names your customers would recognize. If you call it a “spa facial” in the van, call it that on the page.
Setting the Prices
Each add-on has its own price that you set, for example $15 for teeth brushing or a few dollars for a bandana. When the customer ticks one, it is added to the total on the page. These are your prices for your own services, so set them the same way you would quote them in person.
A few things to think through as you set them:
- Time, not just product. An add-on that takes ten extra minutes in the van has a cost even if the product is cheap.
- Things you always include. If every full groom already includes a nail trim and ear cleaning, do not list them as add-ons for that service. Say what is included in the service description on your website instead.
- Things you would rather quote. De-matting is a good example. Many groomers list it as an add-on with a starting price, then rely on the note under the price for heavy cases.
Keep the List Short Enough to Read on a Phone
Most customers book from their phone. A list of twenty add-ons is a wall of checkboxes. Pick the ones customers actually ask for and leave the rare ones for a conversation or an estimate. A shorter list also makes each add-on easier to notice, which is better for you than a long list nobody reads.
A good test: open your own booking page on your phone and go through it as a customer would. If you have to scroll past add-ons you have never once sold, consider dropping them from the booking page. Anything rare can still go on a job as a line item from your service list when a customer asks for it.
Add-Ons and the Note Under the Price
Some add-ons depend on what you find when the dog is on the table. De-matting is the obvious one. The booking page cannot see the coat, so the price for de-matting is a starting point. The note under the price is where you say so: “Heavy matting may cost extra. Final price confirmed at the appointment.” More on wording that note is in The Note Under the Price: Telling Customers Heavy Matting May Cost Extra.
Add-Ons Follow the Booking to the Job
When the request lands in Leads, the add-ons the customer ticked come with it, along with the pets, service, frequency, preferred day and quoted price. Once you book them, add-ons are ticked on the job, so whoever is grooming sees them on the appointment card in the groomer app.
The grooming checklist on the groomer app includes the add-ons along with each pet's steps, so teeth brushing on Biscuit does not get forgotten at the end of a long day. The office sees the completed checklist on the job and can print a Grooming Report for the customer showing what was done.
On repeat visits, the next visit fills in from the last one. If a customer gets teeth brushing every time, it is already there next visit.
Adding an Add-On on the Day
Sometimes a customer asks for an add-on at the door, or the groomer notices the nails need grinding. The groomer can note it on the job, and the office adds the line item so the invoice matches the work. The price comes from your service list, the same list the booking page uses. When the job is completed, the invoice is created and the card on file can be charged.
Next, the short line under the price that saves a lot of awkward conversations. For all booking and quoting tools, see the pet grooming booking software page.
