Multi-Pet Homes on the Grooming Schedule: One Stop, Up to Four Pets
Multi-pet homes are some of the best stops on a mobile groomer's route. One drive, one parking job, one hookup, and several pets groomed. They are also some of the easiest to schedule badly, because a stop with three dogs and a cat looks like one line on a calendar. PetGroomBossPro keeps every pet visible on the card, so the schedule reflects the real size of the visit.
One Visit, Every Pet
Big dogs and heavy coats are covered in Scheduling Long Grooms: Giant Breeds, Doodles and Heavy Coats. A multi-pet home is a long stop for a different reason: there is simply more than one pet.
Every job in PetGroomBossPro holds the pets at that home, up to four per visit. Each pet has its own name, Dog or Cat, breed, size, coat, rabies due date and notes line for the cut and behavior. Add-ons are ticked on the job. On the schedule and on the groomer's phone, you see every pet on the card, not just the address.
Why Separate Pet Details Matter
“Johnson house, 3 dogs” on a paper planner tells you nothing about how long the stop is. Three Toy dogs on a bath and brush is a very different visit from two Large Curly / Doodle dogs and a Long-coat cat. With each pet on the card, you can see the difference at a glance when you set the time.
It also matters for the groomer. Each pet has its own cut and behavior notes: one is “#7 blade body, teddy bear face,” another “nervous with the dryer,” the cat “lion cut, owner holds during nails.” The groomer sees all of them on the card and the grooming checklist runs per pet, so nothing gets mixed up between them.
Setting the Time for a Multi-Pet Stop
Treat a multi-pet home as what it is: a long block. A few habits help:
- Add up the pets, not the stop. Look at each pet's size, coat and add-ons and think about how long each takes for you.
- Give it a generous gap. The next appointment time has to leave room for all of the pets plus clean-up and the drive.
- Put it early or before a break. Like other long grooms, a multi-pet stop is easiest first thing or right before lunch.
- Consider the team van. If you have a groomer and a bather working together, a multi-pet home is a natural fit for them.
Carried Forward, Visit After Visit
The next visit at a home fills in from the last one. For a multi-pet household on a repeat schedule, that means all the pets, their breeds, sizes, coats, cut notes and the add-ons carry forward to the next visit. Nobody re-types four pets every six weeks.
When something changes — a new puppy, a pet who has passed, a new cut the owner wants — update it on the job and it carries forward from there. A customer who mentions a new puppy in reply to a reminder can have the puppy added to tomorrow's visit the night before.
Not Every Pet Every Time
Some multi-pet homes do not groom every pet on every visit. The doodle comes every four weeks; the short-coated dog only gets a bath and nails every other visit; the cat comes twice a year. How you handle that is your call. Some groomers keep one visit with whichever pets are due; others book a separate repeat schedule for the pet on a different frequency.
Either way, the card should show exactly which pets are on this visit, so the time you set matches the work. Repeat schedules are covered in Repeat Grooming Appointments on the Schedule: Every 4, 6 or 8 Weeks in a Fixed Slot.
Pricing Multi-Pet Visits
Multi-pet homes are where clear pricing pays off. On the Book Now page, the customer says how many pets and enters each pet's name, breed and size, and sees their price instantly based on the base prices per service, the price add-on per size and any add-ons you have set. That quoted price comes into Leads with everything they picked, so the first visit is booked with the right expectations.
On the invoice, line items make it clear what each pet had done. If you offer a multi-pet price, set it up in your own service list and use it consistently.
Making Room for the Van
Multi-pet stops keep the van at the curb longer, so the van notes matter more: where to park so you are not blocking a neighbor, which outlet to use, where the water hookup is. Good van notes on a long stop prevent the knock on the van door halfway through the second dog. For how multi-pet stops fit into routing, reminders and the rest of the schedule, see the mobile grooming scheduling software page.
