Add-Ons on the Card: Teeth Brushing, Nail Grinding and Bandanas the Groomer Won't Miss
Add-ons are where a lot of mobile grooming income lives, and where a lot of awkward phone calls come from. The customer paid $15 for teeth brushing and the groomer did not know. Or the groomer did a blueberry facial nobody asked for and now it is on the invoice. Both problems have the same cause: the add-on was not in front of the groomer during the groom.
Add-Ons Sit Under the Pets
The pets themselves, with their breed, size, coat, notes and The Rabies Due Date on the Card: What the Groomer Sees Before the Pet Comes Into the Van, are at the top of the card. Right under them are the add-ons ticked on this appointment.
The add-on list is yours: the owner sets up whatever the business actually offers, at your own prices. Typical examples:
- De-Shed Treatment
- Teeth Brushing
- Nail Grinding
- Flea & Tick Bath
- De-Matting
- Ear Cleaning
- Anal Glands
- Paw Balm
- Blueberry Facial
- Bow / Bandana
Where the Ticks Come From
Add-ons get onto an appointment in a few ways:
- The online booking page. When a customer requests a groom from your Book Now link, they pick add-ons along with the service, the pets and how often. Their quoted price includes them, and the request lands in Leads with everything they picked.
- An approved estimate. Add-ons on an estimate carry onto the job when the customer approves it.
- The office. A customer texts “can you do her nails with the grinder this time?” and the office ticks it on the appointment.
- The last visit. The next visit at a home fills in from the last one, so a regular who always gets teeth brushing has it on every card.
On the Checklist, Per Pet
The add-ons also appear on the per-pet grooming checklist. When the groomer works through the checklist for each pet, the add-ons for that pet are right there with the standard items (coat and skin, bath, dry, haircut, nails, ears and the rest). Ticking them off as they are done means nothing gets forgotten between the dryer and the final brush-out.
The full checklist is covered in The Per-Pet Grooming Checklist in the Groomer App.
From the Card to the Invoice
Add-ons are line items. When the groomer taps Complete, the invoice is created with the service and the add-ons on it, priced from your own service list, with sales tax if you charge it. If the customer has a card on file, it can be charged right then.
That is why it matters that the card is right. If the add-on is on the card and on the checklist, it got done and it gets billed. If a customer asks for something extra at the door, the groomer notes it on the appointment and lets the office know, so the office can add the line item at your price instead of the groomer guessing at the curb.
Pricing Add-Ons for Booking
On the online booking page, the owner sets add-on prices along with base prices per service, a price add-on per size, a minimum and frequency discounts. A customer requesting a full groom for a small dog sees the price climb as they tick teeth brushing and nail grinding, so there are no surprises when the invoice arrives.
Example prices for a groomer's own services might be $15 for teeth brushing or $20 for a nail trim on its own. Those are your numbers; PetGroomBossPro just carries them from the booking page to the card to the invoice.
Supplies on the Van
One practical benefit of add-ons on the card: the groomer can scroll the whole day in the morning and see which add-ons are coming. A flea and tick bath at the third stop means the right shampoo needs to be on the van. A bandana on every pet at a holiday groom means a full stack of bandanas. It is a two-minute check that saves a trip back to the shop.
It also helps at the door. A groomer who can see that teeth brushing and nail grinding are on today's card can confirm them with the owner in one sentence (“teeth and nails today, right?”) before the pet comes into the van. If the owner wants to drop one, the groomer notes it on the appointment so the office can take it off before the invoice goes out.
Fewer Awkward Conversations
Add-ons on the card mostly remove friction. The groomer does what was ordered, the checklist shows it was done, the invoice matches, and the customer sees it on the Grooming Report. When a customer does question a charge, the office can see the ticked add-on on the appointment and the before-and-after photos.
