One-Tap Navigation From the Appointment Card to the Next Customer's Curb

A grooming van is not small, and the groomer driving it usually has wet sleeves, a phone covered in fur and five minutes to get to the next stop. Typing a street address into a map app with one thumb at a stop sign is nobody's idea of a good system. The navigation button on every appointment card fixes that with a single tap.

From the Card to Directions

The previous article, The Groomer's Day in Order: Appointments, Set Times and the Next Driveway, covered how the day lands on the phone in route order. Each of those cards carries the customer's address and a navigation button.

Tap it, and the phone opens directions to that address. The groomer does not copy, paste or type anything. When the groomer finishes the current pet and taps Complete, the next card is at the top of the list, and its navigation button is the next tap.

Why the Address Has to Be Right

Navigation is only as good as the address behind it. In PetGroomBossPro, the address lives on the client record, and one client can have more than one address. A customer whose dogs are groomed at home most weeks but at a vacation house in the summer has both addresses on file, and each appointment points at the right one.

When addresses come in through a CSV import, they are placed on the map automatically, which also means the office can catch an obviously wrong pin before a groomer is sent there. When a booking request comes in from the online booking page, the address the customer typed comes with it.

Navigation Gets You to the Street; Van Notes Get You to the Curb

Directions end at the address. For a grooming van, the real question is what happens next: where the van can park, which side the outlet is on, whether the hose is around the back. That is what van notes are for, and they sit on the same card as the navigation button.

Van notes get their own article later in the series, Van Notes in the Groomer App: Parking, Outlets, Water Hookups and Gate Codes.

The Customer Knows You Are Coming

While the groomer drives, the customer gets an automatic on-the-way text, if they have that alert turned on. They can also open the customer app and watch the day on a live map: “You're stop 12 of 20 — the groomer is 5 stops away.” By the time the van is at the curb, the owner has the leash in hand.

None of that needs the groomer to send a message. They tapped navigation and drove.

Route Order Saves Driving

One-tap navigation helps with each drive, but the bigger saving is in the order of the stops. On the office side, the Scheduled list can auto-route a van's day Closest First or Furthest First from the shop, or the office can set the order by hand. A day that zigzags across town is a day of extra driving between grooms.

Because repeat appointments in PetGroomBossPro keep a fixed weekday, time and van, the office can build sensible neighborhoods into the schedule over time. The six-week regulars on the north side end up on the same day, and navigation between them is a few minutes each.

Van GPS on the Office Side

The flip side of navigation is GPS. Each van's location shows on the office map. When a customer calls to ask where the groomer is, the office can see it instead of calling the van. When a same-day request comes in, the office can see which van is closest. That is covered in Van GPS on the Office Map: Knowing Where Every Grooming Van Is.

A wrong turn costs more in a grooming van than in a car. The van is long, turning around on a narrow street takes time, and every minute lost pushes back the next appointment's set time. Getting the address right once, on the client record, is what makes the one tap reliable on every visit after.

A Few Driving Habits

Navigation is a small feature, but it is the one the groomer uses most often. For everything else on the card, and how the groomer app fits with the office, visit the PetGroomBossPro dog grooming app page.

One Tap to the Next Customer

Every PetGroomBossPro appointment card has a navigation button and the van notes for that home, so groomers never type an address at a stop sign.
