Automatic On-the-Way Texts From the Groomer App

Mobile grooming has one requirement most field trades do not: someone has to be home and hand over the pet. A lawn crew can mow an empty yard. A groomer cannot groom a dog that is locked inside while the owner is at the store. So the text that says “we're on the way” is not a nicety. It is how the day stays on time.

Texts Without Typing

Before-and-After Photos From the Groomer App covered what happens inside the van. The on-the-way text is about what happens before the van arrives. PetGroomBossPro sends it automatically as the groomer works the route, so the groomer never types it.

That matters because a groomer finishing one dog does not have a free hand. Before automatic texts, the routine was: towel off, find the phone, scroll to the next customer, type “on my way,” hit send, then drive. Multiply by six stops and it is a real chunk of the day.

Customers Choose Their Alerts

Not every customer wants the same messages. In the customer app, each customer picks their alert preferences:

A customer who works from home and always has the dog ready might only want the arrival text. A customer who is often out might want all three. Letting them choose keeps the texts welcome instead of annoying.

The Live Map in the Customer App

Texts are one half. The other is the live map in the customer app. On their grooming day, a customer can open it and see something like “You're stop 12 of 20 — the groomer is 5 stops away.” The van's progress through the day shows on the map.

For owners juggling work and errands, that is the most useful screen of the day. They can run to the store when they are five stops out and be back with time to spare.

Replies Go to the Office

Customers do reply to texts. “Running five minutes late, can you start with the other dog?” “Gate's open, she's in the back yard.” “Can you add nails today?” Those replies come into the office through two-way texting, not to the groomer's personal phone.

That keeps the groomer focused on the pet in front of them and gives the office a chance to act: tick an add-on on the appointment, update van notes or call the groomer if something really needs their attention. The arrival side of this is covered in The Arrived Text: Letting the Pet Owner Know the Grooming Van Is Out Front.

Texts Count Toward Your Allowance

Every plan includes a monthly text allowance: 500 texts on Start, 1,000 on Pro and 2,000 on Crew, counting texts sent and received, in the US and Canada. Automatic alerts, reminders and two-way conversations all use it. Because customers pick only the alerts they want, nobody gets messages they did not ask for, and the texts that do go out are the ones that keep the day moving.

Why It Keeps the Day on Time

A mobile groomer's schedule is set times, back to back. The usual way a day falls apart is a stop where nobody answers the door, ten minutes lost knocking and calling, and every appointment after it running late. On-the-way and night-before texts cut down on those stops. Owners who know the van is coming are home, or they reply that they are not, and the office can shuffle the day before the van wastes the trip.

When a stop does fall through, the groomer taps Skip with a note, and the office can text the customer to rebook. The Skip button is covered in Start, Skip, Complete: The Three Buttons That Run a Mobile Grooming Day.

Customers who are new to mobile grooming especially like the texts. They are not used to a groomer coming to the house, and a simple heads-up turns a vague “sometime Tuesday morning” into a clear picture of when to be home with the dog ready. That first good experience is often what turns a one-time booking into a repeat appointment every six weeks.

Set It Up Once

Automatic texts are one of the first things to turn on in a free trial. Make sure your customers have mobile numbers on file, let them pick their alerts in the customer app, and the texts start going out as groomers work the route.
