Start, Skip, Complete: The Three Buttons That Run a Mobile Grooming Day

A groomer app can have a lot of screens, but the day really runs on three buttons. Start says “I'm on it.” Skip says “this one isn't happening today.” Complete says “done.” Everything the office knows about the day, and a lot of what the customer hears, comes from those taps.

Three Buttons on Every Card

The previous article, The Note for the Customer: Telling Pet Owners What the Groomer Noticed Today, covered the last line of the checklist. Wrapped around the checklist are the three buttons on every appointment card.

They are deliberately simple. A groomer with wet hands and a dog on the table should not have to hunt for a menu.

Start

Start tells the office the appointment is underway. In the office, the job shows as started on the schedule. On the groomer's side, starting the appointment is when the checklist for each pet comes into play and photos get taken.

When to tap Start is a business choice, but most groomers tap it when the first pet comes into the van. That way, the started time reflects when grooming actually began, not when the van parked.

Complete

Complete is the big one. When the groomer taps it:

Then the next card is at the top of the list, with its navigation button ready. Payment at completion is covered in Charging the Card on File When the Groomer Taps Complete.

Skip

Not every appointment happens. Mobile grooming has its own set of reasons:

The groomer taps Skip and writes why in the notes. The office sees the skip with the reason, can text the customer through two-way texting, and can rebook the appointment. Without a note, a skip is just a gap in the day. With one, the office knows exactly what to do next.

What the Office Sees All Day

Put together, the three buttons give the office a live picture of every van. A glance at the schedule shows which appointments are done, which are underway, and which were skipped and why. Add van GPS on the office map, and the office can answer “when will the groomer get here?” without calling the groomer in the middle of a haircut.

That matters most in a business with more than one van, or when the owner is grooming in one van while someone else answers the phone. The groomer does not have to report in; the buttons do it.

The Customer Side of the Buttons

Customers also feel the buttons, indirectly. Automatic on-the-way and arrived texts go out as the groomer works the route, and the live map in the customer app shows where they are in line. The invoice appears in the customer app after Complete, where the customer can pay or leave a tip on the paid invoice. Those texts are covered in Automatic On-the-Way Texts From the Groomer App.

For the owner, the buttons are also the simplest way to see how the business is running without asking. A week of completed appointments with checklists and photos says more about how the vans are doing than any end-of-day phone call. And when a customer disputes whether a visit happened, the Start and Complete taps on the appointment, plus the photos, settle it without anyone digging through texts.

Habits That Keep the Buttons Honest

Three buttons, used the same way by every groomer, are what make the office view trustworthy. For how they fit with the rest of the groomer app, visit the PetGroomBossPro dog grooming app page.
