Fitting Quick Nail Trims Into a Full Grooming Day

A nail trim visit is the opposite of a giant-breed groom. It is short, it needs no bath, and it is often a customer who will happily take any time you offer. Scheduled well, nail trims fill the small gaps in a day of full grooms. Scheduled badly, a ten-minute visit costs a forty-minute drive.

Short Stops Need a Different Rule

The opposite end of the day is covered in Multi-Pet Homes on the Grooming Schedule: One Stop, Up to Four Pets. Long stops need protected time. Short stops need a good location.

With a full groom, the time is the hard part and the drive is a small slice of the stop. With a nail trim it flips around: the trim is quick, and the drive is most of what it costs you. The single best rule for nail trims is to book them where the van already is.

Placing Nail Trims Along the Route

When a nail trim request lands on the No Day tab of Pending Jobs, look at its pin on the map against the visits you already have planned. A request a few streets from a Tuesday full groom is a Tuesday nail trim. Book it right before or right after that groom, at a time that leaves room for both.

Because the drive is so short, a well-placed trim barely changes the van's day. A badly placed one, across town between two full grooms, can push everything after it back. The Pending Jobs map makes the difference easy to see before you commit. More on that tab in The No Day Tab: Where New Grooming Requests Wait for a Slot.

Using the Gaps in the Day

Even a well-built day has small gaps: the space before a fixed afternoon appointment, the time freed up when a visit is skipped, the cushion you left after a long groom that finished on time. Nail trims are the natural way to use them.

Same-Day Nail Trim Requests

Nail trims are a natural same-day request, because they are small and owners tend to ask for them when they notice the clicking on the floor. With van GPS on the office map, the office can see which van is nearby and which has room. Add the stop to that van's day, and it shows up on the groomer's phone with the pet's details and any notes such as “muzzle for nails” or “owner holds.”

Not every request has to be same-day, though. If no van is near, offer the next day one will be. Most nail trim customers are happy to wait a day or two for a time that works.

Repeat Nail Trim Customers

Some customers want nails done between full grooms. Others only ever book nail trims. Either way, Add Recurring Grooming can book them on a regular schedule — every 2, 3 or 4 weeks, for example, whatever the customer picks — on the same weekday, time and van.

The trick is to put repeat trims on days when the van is already in their area. If a nail trim customer lives near three of your Tuesday full grooms, book their trims on Tuesday too. Their slot then stays next to those grooms every time.

If you price the trims as a stand-alone service, set it in your service list; for example, a $20 nail trim. If you offer Nail Grinding as an add-on on full grooms, that is ticked on the job like any other add-on.

Don't Let Trims Crowd the Day

Nail trims are easy to say yes to, which is exactly why they can take over. Five trims scattered across a day of full grooms can add more driving than you planned. A simple check: if a trim cannot go near an existing stop, it waits for a day when it can.

Another option is a nail trim stretch — several trims grouped one after another in one neighborhood, perhaps at the end of a day. Grouping by area is covered in Neighborhood Days: Grouping Mobile Grooming Appointments by Area.

Quick Visits, Same Records

A nail trim is short, but it is still a visit with a pet on it. The pet's name, breed, size and notes are on the card, the visit is completed in the groomer app, and the invoice is created at completion with the card on file charged if the customer has one. The record is there the next time, too. For how quick visits fit with everything else on the schedule, see the mobile grooming scheduling software page.

Put Nail Trims Where the Van Already Is

PetGroomBossPro shows new nail trim requests on the Pending Jobs map next to planned visits, and van GPS shows who is nearby for same-day requests.
