Lion Cut Notes Carried Forward: The Same Cut Every Visit Without Re-Typing
A lion cut owner usually has a picture in their head. Maybe it is boots on the feet and a tuft on the tail. Maybe the mane is left full, or maybe the owner wants it short. Whatever the picture is, they want the same cat back every time, and they notice when it is different.
That makes the lion cut one of the clearest cases for writing the cut down and letting the software carry it to the next visit.
From Behavior Notes to Cut Notes
Behavior Notes for Cats: Saving the Lines That Make the Next Visit Go Better covered the behavior half of each pet's notes line. The cut is the other half, and for a lion cut cat it is often the part the owner cares most about.
In PetGroomBossPro, every pet on a visit has a notes line for the cut and behavior. It shows on the groomer's card, and the next visit at that home fills in from the last one. The cut note written in March is on the card in May, without anyone re-typing it.
What a Lion Cut Note Usually Covers
Every groomer has their own way of describing a lion cut, and this is not a guide to doing one. The point is to write down the choices that vary from cat to cat, the ones the owner would notice if they changed. Things groomers commonly note:
- Boots or no boots, and roughly where they stop.
- Tail: tuft at the end, or left full.
- Mane: full, short, or somewhere in between.
- Blade or length, written the way your groomers talk about it.
- Anything the owner asked for: “owner wants belly done too,” “leave the face alone.”
A finished note might read: “Lion cut, boots at the wrist, tail tuft, mane short. Owner likes it tidy. Two people for nails.” That is one line, and it covers the cut and the behavior.
Why Carried Forward Matters for Lion Cuts
Lion cuts tend to be spaced out. If the next one is weeks or months away, the details of the last one are long gone from memory by the time it comes around. And if the next appointment lands with a different groomer, there is no memory to rely on at all.
Because the pets fill in from the last visit, the groomer on the next appointment sees the same note on the card. When the visits are booked as a repeat series with Add Recurring Grooming, every visit in the series carries the pet details, so the cut note is there whether the visit is next month or six months out.
When an owner approves an estimate for a lion cut, the pet details on the estimate carry onto the job, so a note written while quoting is on the first appointment too. More on quoting in Estimates for New Cat Clients: Quoting a Lion Cut Before the First Visit.
Photos Back Up the Note
Words only go so far when describing a haircut. The groomer app takes before and after photos, saved with the job. An after photo of last visit's lion cut is a useful reference next to the note, especially if the owner says “like last time.”
The photos stay on the job in the office. There is no customer photo upload, and the Grooming Report is a printed checklist and note rather than a photo card. If an owner sends you a picture of the look they want, keep the gist of it in the note in words.
When the Owner Changes the Cut
Owners change their minds. A cat that had a lion cut every visit might switch to a comb-out for the cooler months, or the owner might ask for boots this time. When that happens, edit the note on that visit. Because the next visit fills in from this one, the change is what carries forward.
If the change is only for this one visit, say so: “Comb-out this visit only, back to lion cut next time.” The next groomer reads it and knows what to expect, and whoever does that next visit can tidy the note back to the usual cut.
Lion Cuts on the Service List and the Invoice
The note describes the cut. The service list is what you charge for it. Most groomers who do lion cuts set them up as their own service, separate from a regular cat groom, with its own price. That way the booking page quotes it properly, the groomer's card shows it, and the invoice says what was done. Setting that up is covered in Cat Services on the Service List: Cat Groom, Lion Cut, Comb-Out, Sanitary Trim and Nail Trim.
The Same Cat Back, Every Time
The owner who gets the same lion cut every time stops worrying about the appointment. A clear cut note that carries forward, backed by an after photo on the job, is how that happens even when visits are far apart or a different groomer takes the stop. Save the Cut Once
PetGroomBossPro keeps each cat's lion cut notes on the pet and fills them into the next visit, so the cut comes back the same.
